FDK
have a large selection of toys specially selected for their suitability
for use with Dyspraxic children.
They
are especially good for hand/eye
co-ordination, pen control, sequencing of thoughts and
forward
planning, 3D awareness and more.
After
feedback from members we hope
(subject to funding) to be able to buy more toys to
specifically target
gross-motor control, body awareness and speech difficulties.
Any
toys that aren't currently being borrowed are stored at the Link Centre
where we meet.
On
fun nights members can choose any toys to take home
for their children to play with for as long as they like
(within
reason!) and then just bring them back and swap them for
some more.
As
long as the toys are getting used we're happy - in fact at the end of
the night it's Chris the 'Toy Master' s job to persuade
members to
borrow them. So he's popular!
It's £1 per selection of
toys (not £1 per toy!) to borrow each time.
The
£1,000 grant we applied for to buy these toys in 2005 has been used for
maximum benefit to our children and so it's no surprise that
the Toy
Library is our most used and popular resource.
